Clematis on the Web :: clematis detail
Clematis grandiflora

Small, nodding, cylindrical flowers, pale yellow to yellow-green on the outside, yellow-brown inside. Large numbers of stamens with greenish anthers are revealed when the tepals recurve slightly . Evergreen, but not hardy, so in cultivation would probably require a warm greenhouse or conservatory. The seedheads are said to be the largest in the genus. The photographs were taken in the gardens of Quinto de Palheiro, Madeira.
