Clematis 'Tunbridgensis'

Purple-violet flowers on first opening which fade to red-purple with a paler central bar. Green-white stamens. The last listing given by Magnus Johnson for this cultivar is in 1935, Riekstina has the name on a list of 77 cultivars introduced into Latvia between 1870 and 1910. In 1912, William Robinson in his book 'The Virgin's Bower' lists this cultivar as "trusted to give lovely effects if culture and position be all [it] deserves." It now appears to be lost from cultivation - please contact us if you know otherwise.
