Clematis BLUE BIRD 'Edomurasaki'

Large purple flowers (variously described as 'deep velvety purple', 'purple-blue', 'dark red-purple') with purple anthers on white filaments. According to Robin Savill the name 'Edomurasaki' means 'Old Edo Purple', Edo being the old name for Tokyo. The colour refers to the deep reddish-purple which was favoured as the high society colour during the Edo era (16th Century - 1868).
