Medium to large blue-purple flowers with red in the central veins and pale flecks in the tepals, unlike 'Oonagare Ichigoo' which does not have the red or the flecks. Filaments white, anthers yellow. The International Clematis Register and Checklist 2002 suggests that the cultivar name comes from the name of the district and product number. Our Japanese contact tells us that 'oonagare' means 'big stream' because, when a plant has many flowers, it looks like a waterfall; she also suggests that if it is treated as a Group 2 clematis it will flower in May.
