Clematis 'Madame Édouard André'

Deep ruby-red flowers with contrasting cream stamens. Another superb variety raised by Veillard of Orleans. Introduced around 1893 (Riekstina has 1892). The variety has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. In 1912, William Robinson in his book 'The Virgin's Bower' lists this cultivar as "trusted to give lovely effects if culture and position be all [it] deserves."
