Clematis 'Madame Grangé'

Large flowers with distinctive tepals, the edges and tips curling inward to form a canoe shape. Deep rosy-purple with reddish-purple anthers. Prefers a sunny position. Raised by Grangé of Orleans in 1875. The variety has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. In 1912, William Robinson in his book 'The Virgin's Bower' lists this cultivar as "trusted to give lovely effects if culture and position be all [it] deserves."
