Clematis 'Joan Sandeman-Allen'

Double, pale, pink-blue flowers in the spring, single flowers later. Barry Fretwell's own website notes that the form was "named for the wife of James 'Sandy' Sandeman-Allen, MBE, DFM, - initially the treasurer and, from 1994, honorary chief executive of 'The Guinea Pig Club' - the unique body of grievously burnt Allied airmen who were treated by the celebrated plastic surgeon Sir Archibald McIndoe. Joan's contribution to the charity has been directed towards the wives of these gallant gentlemen."
