Clematis 'Nadezhda'

Large bowl-shaped flowers. Vivid red, edged in pale pink. Pale yellow anthers on white filaments. Raised by M.A. Beskaravainaja at the State Nikiski Botanic Gardens, Crimea in 1965. Named in 1971. A seedling of 'Nelly Moser' x (mixed pollen of) 'Lawsoniana' and C. lanuginosa 'Candida'. 'Nadezhda' is a Russian woman's name meaning 'hope' and the variety is named for the breeder's sister, N A Platonova.
