Clematis 'Bill MacKenzie'

Small to medium, open lantern-shaped, bright yellow flowers (large for a tangutica type). Beige anthers on red-brown filaments. Flowers are followed by very large seed heads. Discovered by Bill Mackenzie at the Waterperry School of Horticulture in 1968. The variety has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Merit in 1976 and of Garden Merit in 1993.

Bill MacKenzie was in charge of the Alpine and Herbaceous Department at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh and later Curator of the Chelsea Physic Garden in London.
