Small nodding reddish-violet flowers with recurving tepals. Pale yellow filaments and anthers. Robin Savill notes that "This rare species native to Japan, China and Taiwan has had poor reviews in the past but [a good] form ... is free-flowering and particularly effective when viewed from below."
