Clematis 'William Kennett'

Deep mauve-blue flowers with purple or dark red stamens on white filaments and, before it fades, a bar light red towards the base. The centres of the tepals fade in the sun creating a two-tone effect. In 1912, William Robinson in his book 'The Virgin's Bower' lists this cultivar as "trusted to give lovely effects if culture and position be all [it] deserves."

The International Clematis Register and Checklist 2002 notes that "there is a discrepancy over the raiser, with some authorities .. attributing the breeding to Henry Cobbett".
