Clematis cirrhosa 'Red'

This variety of cirrhosa became available through UK nurseries in 2000/2001. The labels indicate that it is being wholesaled by Pennells: we are seeking further details. The flowers are an attractive matt red colour inside and the form has attractive evergreen foliage. The original cirrhosa was introduced from southern Europe in 1596. This form appears extremely similar to cirrhosa 'Landsdowne Gem' and Malcolm Oviatt-Ham is of the opinion that they are the same cultivar.
