Clematis 'Maureen' (Late large-flowered group)

Large, velvety, dark purple or purple-red flowers with a redder bar. Fades slightly with age. Pale yellow or beige anthers (some say brown) on creamy green-white filaments.

Peer Sorensen from New Zealand suggests that the anthers are, indeed, brown but that pollen is so prolific as to make them look "dull yellow". The first photograph was taken by Peer, the second at the Rogerson Collection in the US; there seems to be considerable colour variation.
