Clematis 'Solidarnosc'

Large, velvety dark red flowers which fade to a lighter red with an even paler bar. Purple-red anthers on whitish yellow filaments and with cream pollen. The flowers are sometimes spotted white, especially early in the year or if the plant is grown under glass. Awarded a silver medal at 'Plantarium 2005'.

Szczepan Marczynski, on his website, writes that the cultivar is "named after the independent Trade Union "Solidarnosc" (in English - Solidarity). Formed in August 1980, it was instrumental in bringing down the communist regime in Poland and consequently in Central and Eastern Europe."
