


Szczepan Marczynski, on his website, writes that the cultivar is "named after the independent Trade Union "Solidarnosc" (in English - Solidarity). Formed in August 1980, it was instrumental in bringing down the communist regime in Poland and consequently in Central and Eastern Europe."
