Clematis songarica
Flowers pure white or creamy, with pale yellow anthers, in July-September, followed by attractive silvery seed heads. Needs a sunny position to bring out the sweet almond scent. Introduced to cultivation in 1880, this subshrubby species is native to C Asia, NW China and Mongolia, taking its name from the former region of Dzungaria (Songaria) located in the Kazakstan/Xinjiang border region. A plant of architectural value with semi-climbing or erect, bamboo-like stems, and greyish-green, entire or saw-toothed leaves.
