Clematis heracleifolia 'China Purple'

A heracleifolia type with purple stems bearing clusters of tubular purple flowers which later open and spread. The inside of the tepals is darker than the outside. This cultivar was raised at the Proefstation voor de Boomkwekerij in Boskoop, Holland from seeds collected in China. According to Wim Snoeijer, probably a selection of heracleifolia var ichangensis
