Clematis 'Lucie Lemoine'
Large double white flower with yellow stamens. This Lemoine cultivar is mentioned by Whitehead (1959) and we had thought it lost from cultivation, however in 2004 we obtained the first of these photographs from the Ukraine. Our thanks to Tamara and Valera Bubliy for tracking it down and to Mr Svartsevich for permission to use it. In 2005, the Bubliys sent us the second photograph which they say shows a single flower on the same cultivar; none of our references actually mentions that 'Lucie Lemoine' flowers single as well as double.
The Markham reference, above, suggests that this cultivar is of "florida parentage". Boom en Plantenbeurs (1890) suggests 'Fortunei' x 'Albertine'. Moore and Jackman (1872) are clear that neither is the case and the International Register quotes their version: patens x 'Fortunei'.
