Clematis 'Fukuzono'
Nodding, blue-purple flowers which open into a wide star shape, fading later to mid-blue. Deeply ribbed tepals. Yellow anthers on pale purple filaments.
Our Japanese contact tells us that 'Fujizono' and 'Fukuzono' are one and the same. The form was originally 'Fujizono', 'fuji' meaning 'wisteria' and 'zono' meaning garden - masses of the flower reminding the raiser of wisteria; it was re-named 'Fukuzono' at the time of registration, 'fuku' meaning 'happiness'.
