Clematis forsteri

Small semi-nodding, scented flowers. This is a somewhat variable species: depending on the source, the colour of the tepals can vary from "lime green" (M Toomey & E Leeds) through "greenish-white" (R Savill) to "pale creamy yellow touched with green" (B Rogerson). Normally with yellow anthers - though, as our specimen shows, some specimens have green! Requires a sunny position in well drained soil. Attractive evergreen foliage, but rather frost tender. Introduced from New Zealand in 1791. The name commemorates the botanist J R Forster.
