Clematis LAGON BLEU 'Fujinami'

Large, blue flowers, paler blue at the tips of the tepals and with pale yellow anthers.

According to Robin Savill, 'Fujinami', known on the continent as 'Lagon Bleu', is the sister-plant to 'Fujimusume' raised by Sejuru Arai in Japan, originating from the same batch of seedlings ('Asagiri' x 'The President') in 1952. Named after a place in Japan, 'Fujinami' means 'Blue Wave'.

The International Clematis Register and Checklist 2002 gives the parentage of this cultivar as 'Asagasumi' x 'The President' on the basis that 'Asagiri' had not been traced and was probably an error. Just before the Register went to print, 'Asagiri' was traced and included, however the reference to a probable mistake was overlooked and went uncorrected.
